About

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by. So on this page I am suppose to say few things about myself. Let me start with the things I like:
– cooking
– baking
– anything food related
– coffee (flat white)
– cocktails
– crafts and handmade gifts
– music: Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Foxes, Hotel Costes
– movies: Anything by Woody Allen
– Tv: American Horror Story, How to get away with murder, any cookery shows especially with Nigella Lawson, Kathy Griffin – such a hilarious woman!

My biggest passion is cooking and even if sometimes it doesn’t go right for me it’s always a kick to do it again and learn on the mistakes you have made. I like cooking on budget as I believe in today’s world of Aldi, Lidl and Asda you are really able to produce fantastic quality food without braking the bank. I also like sharing the latest products I discover and do a little review of what I like. I also love making traditional recipes either a little healthier or with extra twists.

The research. For me a very important part of every post is the research. I really like to see what is out there already, especially in very old cookbooks passed on from my family. With every recipe I read I really like to think of how can I make it my own and different to add another depth of flavour or presentation twist.

The past. I am a Polish guy who emigrated to UK at the age of 19 and Graduated Media and Communication in 2010. I am currently working as a General Manager for a French hotel chain in the south of UK. Ever since I was a little kid I always used to watch my mum and my grandmother cook and those 2 ladies had a huge influence on the making of the scrimpy cook that is writing this today. After that there were also the hours of watching cookery shows from UK, US and Poland.

The future. I think every single one of us has this one dream to be able to do what they love. For me it’s cooking or writing about and one day I would like to turn this hobby into a full time job. So if anyone out there has any suggestions on what would make this blog better please drop me an email.

I hope you will enjoy my blog and find some inspiration for your future cooking ventures. Please be generous with your likes and comments as that is the best feeling ever when your phone buzzes to tell you that somebody likes your post/recipe/review and get in touch on: thescrimpycook@gmail.com

Thanks

Mike xx

    Hi Mike,
I’ve just come across your blog now and I really love it! I’ve got a very similar blog (we even have the same theme) where I post recipes and reviews on places I eat, alongside travel and beauty posts.

I was wondering how you get your avatar static on your home page?? I really want that for my blog but can’t work it out.

    • Hey Hope,
Thanks for your nice comments. I just looked on yiur blog and it looks great!! I hope mine will look like that as posts are being published…

With the avatar if you are using wordpress there is a widget that you can add in the customise tab. The widget is called: Author grid and you can add in to yiur header. Hope it helps. Let me know if you can’t find it and I will try to give you more precise directions.

Hey Mike, I’ll be definitely following your blog. Anything food related is always good for me, as I tend to get super hungry when I read or look at photos! Haha.

  7. Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving a LIKE! I love reading blogs about food and cooking. I, too, wish I could figure out a way to write about recipes and then cook and get paid for it. We should collaborate – BTW, my mother’s maiden name was Schmidt- are you pure Polish or do you have some German ancestry?
